Movement Types
SAP Movement Type is a three-character key that differentiates various material movements.
Movement Type controls the GL Account
DEFINTION
The first character defines the type of movement
1** Goods Receipt with reference to Purchase Order
2** Goods Consumption within plant
3** Transfer Posting
4** Special Stock
5** Goods Receipt without reference to Purchase Order
6** Goods Issues through sales
7** Physical Inventory
DEFAULT CONFIGURATION
Goods Receipt (GR)
101: Used when goods are received and posted into inventory
102: Used to reverse a goods receipt, reducing stock if incorrectly received or damaged.
Return to Vendor
122: Used to return faulty or non-compliant goods, reversing the goods receipt process and decreasing stock.
Goods Issue (GI) & Reservation
201: Used when goods are issued from inventory to a cost center
241: Goods issue for a project (special stock).
261: Used to issue goods for a production order, reducing raw material inventory.
Stock Transfer
301: Used for transferring stock from one plant to another within the same company
311: Used for stock transfers within the plant.
Transfer Posting
309: Used to change material.
321: Transfer of stock from quality inspection to unrestricted-use stock.
322: Transfer from quality inspection to blocked stock.
343: Transfer stock from blocked stock to unrestricted-use stock
344: Transfer from blocked stock to quality inspection.
349: Transfer from blocked stock to unrestricted-use stock
351: Transfer of goods to a customer consignment.
Scraping
551: Used to decrease stock when goods are scrapped.
555: Goods assigned to a specific project are scrapped.
557: Scrapping of sales order stock.
Consignment
631: Goods issue from consignment stock to unrestricted-use stock.
632: Return from unrestricted-use stock to consignment stock.
Physical Inventory
701: Physical inventory counting, adjusting stock accordingly.
702: Inventory difference posting for goods in quality inspection.
703: Inventory difference posting for blocked stock.
Movement Type Configuration
Account Modifier (G/L Accounts): Determines which G/L accounts are affected by the movement type.
Quantity Update/Value Update: Controls whether the movement type updates inventory quantities and/or values.
Special Stock Indicator: Specifies if the movement type is related to special stock (e.g., consignment stock, project stock).
Reversal Movement Type: Defines the movement type used to reverse a transaction.
Automatic Posting: Indicates if the movement type should post automatically based on predefined rules.
